We have put together the most useful tips for you to ensure that your next knitting project is a complete success.
#1: Organize your knitting supplies
Good organization of your knitting needles can make all the difference. If everything is in a mess, I quickly lose track and motivation. But the most important thing for me is that I can quickly find the right knitting needle for me. So my first tip: find an organization system that works for you - label your needles by size or use a clear storage system. This way you can get to what you want even faster. Knitting.
#2: Don't forget yourself
Knitting is more than just a hobby, it's a little time out for the soul. Make it a habit to set aside time for it regularly. Treat yourself to these moments of relaxation and let knitting become a permanent part of your everyday life. You deserve not to lose sight of yourself.
#3: Always wash your swatch first
Some yarns are easy to machine wash, like our alpacare alpaca wool. But natural yarns can be tricky. So it's best to always wash your swatch first to find out how the wool behaves. It's ideal for this because even if it shrinks a little, you can still use it. For the best care, however, you should wash your knitted items - especially those made of alpaca - by hand.
#4: The gauge is worth its weight in gold
Before you really get started, you should always knit a gauge sample to make sure that your needle size is right. Otherwise, it can easily happen that your knitted piece is much too big or too small - and in the end it either just fits or has room for you and your knitting friend. A small gauge sample can save you a lot of frustration!
#5: The detergent must be right
To enjoy your knitted item for a long time, you need to care for it properly. Make sure you choose a detergent that is specifically designed for wool or delicate fabrics - simple soap or shampoo are not a good choice for your valuable knitted items. We recommend our organic detergent specifically for alpaca wool. If washing is ever necessary, please use the right detergent to optimally protect your work.
#6: Ravelry
I am always amazed to see that some knitters don't know Ravelry. It is a social network that deals with handicrafts such as crocheting, weaving and knitting. There you can find countless knitting instructions and inspiration. The user-friendliness could be improved a little, but in terms of the variety and quality of the instructions, Ravelry is unbeatable - there is no getting around it!
#7: Knitted thimble
My second to last knitting tip is about another thank goodness product. If you like knitting with two strands of yarn at once as much as I do, a knitting thimble is worth its weight in gold. The knitting thimble from Clover is particularly great!
#8: Enjoy knitting
Finally, an important tip: you are making your own clothes when you knit! It's fantastic! Be proud of this special skill and enjoy wearing your work. Of course, not everything always works out the first time. I myself have unraveled my projects countless times, but these little setbacks are quickly forgotten as soon as success comes. Every experience takes you further. So enjoy the process and remember that you will succeed next time. Knitting can require patience, but above all it should be fun. If you get tired of a project, put it aside and start something new. You can always pick it up again later - and even if it remains unfinished, that's completely fine.
Knit for yourself and enjoy every moment.
