It is very important to us to support social projects in Arequipa, so when we discovered a small, local company that produces these adorable mini alpacas, we were immediately excited.
The mini alpacas are made by hand at home by single mothers. This allows the women to be with their children and earn an income. At the same time, we got to know the Casa Verde children's home in Arequipa. The mission and the work behind it touched our hearts. That's why we looked for an idea to support both projects and open more doors with our alpaca wool, both for the local artisans and for the lovely children.
Our mini alpacas are made entirely from our own 100% baby alpaca yarn using a felting technique where the yarn is inserted and removed by hand to form the cute alpacas you see. A mini alpaca takes around 4 hours to make, depending on the thickness of the yarn.
The company with which we make these beautiful figures is located in Arequipa and has been working in this sector for 10 years. It is very important to them that their artisans are happy and enjoy their work, because the learning process of this technique takes about 6 months to perfect. That is why they take care to provide a good working environment for their workers. They have the option of working from home or bringing their children to the company and looking after them there.
We hope that you fall in love with this project as much as we do and continue to build your own alpaca farm at home.
