Alpaca wool
How do you wash alpaca wool?
How do you wash alpaca wool?
Wash clothing made of alpaca wool carefully in warm water with a mild soap (mild shampoo is sufficient) and rinse thoroughly in water of the same temperature. Special care is required as wet alpaca fabrics weaken and may stretch out of shape. Never wring or twist. Gently squeeze excess water from the garment.
Is alpaca wool scratchy?
Is alpaca wool scratchy?
Alpaca wool does not scratch because it has flat or slightly protruding edges that reduce friction. Alpaca wool also has microscopic "airbags" that make it possible to produce garments that are lightweight but comfortable to wear. This makes it particularly pleasant for sensitive skin.
Where do the alpacas that produce alpaca wool come from?
Where do the alpacas that produce alpaca wool come from?
Most alpacas live in Peru, as well as in South American countries such as Ecuador, Bolivia, northern Chile and northwestern Argentina. Their habitat is usually at an altitude of over 3800 meters. Hansafarm sources the high-quality alpaca wool from the Peruvian high Andes, where the animals grow up in their natural environment.
How many alpaca breeds are there from which alpaca wool is obtained?
How many alpaca breeds are there from which alpaca wool is obtained?
There are two types of alpacas - the Huacaya and the Suri alpaca. The main difference between the two is the appearance of the alpaca wool. The Suri has fine fibers that are quite smooth and appear to hang from the alpaca's body in "dreadlocks". The Huacaya has a very curly fiber, which gives them a woolly and round appearance.

Baby alpaca wool ...is no longer expensive!
The Hansa-Farm® project, founded in the summer of 2012, has found a way to sell alpaca wool in high quality, but still at very reasonable prices. The principle is simple: the wool is only offered in 200g and 300g units, so that it is possible to buy larger quantities directly in Peru. We completely avoid middlemen in our sales in order to make the alpaca wool affordable in Germany, while our producers in Peru can enjoy fair prices.

Alpaca wool – a material with history
In Peru, we fell in love with this fantastic raw material. Alpaca wool is 100% natural fiber, which was already valued by the Incas in the Peruvian Andes in 5000 BC. Even in the Inca era, it was more valuable than gold. Alpaca wool has been exported all over the world since the 19th century and has been one of the most valuable natural materials in textile production ever since. The feel on the skin is reminiscent of cashmere and silk - cuddly, soft and elegant in appearance. You can use the wool to make wonderful knitted items that are particularly hypoallergenic and temperature-regulating. Even today, alpaca wool is processed into masterful works of art in the Andes and is an integral part of Peruvian culture.

Alpaca wool of the highest quality
In our alpaca wool, which is carefully harvested from the alpacas, you will only find the finest fibers. We also concentrate on the fine quality "baby alpaca", which can be obtained in larger quantities. The alpaca wool stores heat thanks to its hollow fiber and releases it evenly. The result is an incredibly light, fine wool that is up to 5 times warmer than sheep's wool. The fiber of the alpaca wool is scratch-free and practically free of wool fat (lanolin), making it ideal for sensitive skin and very suitable for allergy sufferers. Thanks to the ideal temperature balance, our baby alpaca wool can be worn in winter as well as summer.

Alpaca wool YARN5INITIATIVE® tested
This season, selected colors were again intensively tested for harmful substances by a laboratory. We would also like to emphasize that we have our yarns tested for a number of other criteria using the YARN5INITIATIVE®. These include, for example, washing properties, fiber fastness, piling and much more.
