Angora goat wool

By Fiorella Cruz  •   2 minute read

Wolle der Angoraziege

The wool of the Angora goat, a breed of domestic goat, is a yarn made of long and curly, but silky, hair. The Angora goat and its wool have attracted attention in many parts of the world because the mohair wool has been successfully used and processed in a wide variety of products. Mohair wool is one of the highest quality fibers currently available on the market. The white goat does not offer any variety of colored wool, but it can be dyed later.
which is why this is not a problem.

How do you measure the fineness of wool?
The special fineness of the individual hairs feels very soft on the skin, some other wools are unpleasantly scratchy. But mohair wool also overcomes this problem, as the individual fibers lie smoothly on the skin. The fineness, which affects the softness of the fibers, is measured in microns. The younger the animal, the softer the fibers, which are divided into so-called fineness classes:

a young animal (kid) offers 24-29 microns
an adult animal, however, 40 microns

A micron is one millionth of a meter. An alternative name is micrometer. There is a cool conversion table on the website www.metric-conversions.org. If you like, try it out.

But the impressive fineness is not all that mohair wool has to offer. It absorbs up to 25 percent of moisture. The material, like alpaca wool, is practically cool in summer and warm in winter. It is also water-repellent. It also has an antibacterial effect. This is a very useful property as it prevents fungal infections.

Mohair wool up to 29 microns (mainly from young animals) is used for clothing. Coarser wool is used for carpets or blankets, for example, which is why you can say that Angora goat wool is a real all-rounder. It is used for handicrafts, but also for clothing, pillows and duvets, socks and carpets. It is perfect for making extravagant items of clothing.

We have learned that the very fine quality comes from the young of the Angora goat. This wool is called Kid Mohair. A special shine and even more pronounced suppleness is achieved by adding real silk. We offer you this mixture from South Africa. The mixture ratio of our mohair wool is currently 72% mohair and 28% silk.
